Despite the recent news about safety of baby bottles with bisphenol-A (BPA) and phalates, we have continued to use Avent plastic bottles for our son. We had invested a lot of money into them and by the time the news broke we knew it was only a short time until we would move to sippy cups anyway. We decided to pick our battles and plastic bottles was not one of them…until now.
We are transitioning our son to a sippy cup and decided this was the perfect time to go BPA free. We chose the Born Free feeding system. Honestly, we picked them because they were available at out local Babies R Us. The individuals were sold out, but we were able to buy the gift set which included 5 bottles. We bought 2 extra sets of sippy spouts. The system includes regular nipples, soft training sippy spouts, and hard drinking spouts. The spouts come in cool bright colors and are afe for teething babys to chew on.

We love these bottles and sippy training spouts! Our son can actually hold them himself (even without the handles) and easily get the spout to his mouth. There was no transition necessary, because he got the hang of them right away. He was never able to use the Avent training cup because it did not provide a natural transition from the nipple. The Born Free bottles require the least amount of negative pressure when sucking so it is safer and easier for baby.
If you are still unsure about plastic, Born Free has just come out with glass bottles.
