My son has been on a food protest the last few weeks. He resists all forms of solid food. Finally, today I broke through and got him to eat. I made the First Chicken Puree from “Superfoods for Babies and Children” by Annabel Karmel. After I packed up small portions for the freezer I decided to try to feed him the still warm remains from the pan.
Like magic he was opening his mouth eager for me to fill it with chicken puree. I guess he just likes a good home cooked meal. The best part was how satisfying it was for me to see him eat the food I made for him. My 8 month old was eating leeks, carrots, chicken, tomatoes, and potatoes right before my eyes. This was also the first time I was willing to taste test the baby food. It was delicious!
Annabel Karmel’s homemade baby food recipes are so easy to make. The First Chicken Puree reminded me of making chicken soup except I poured it in the blender at the end and pureed it. From start to finish it only took about 30 minutes. The recipe states it makes 5 portions, but my son is a light eater. I ended up with 8 portions in the freezer and enough leftover to feed him lunch.
If you want to try making your own baby food, there is a similar recipe for Chicken Puree with Carrots available free on the Annabel Karmel website.
