Organic simply means without the use of chemicals (such as fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides). Organic foods are available in the grocery store and clothes and housewares are being manufactured from organic cotton. There are several product labeling terms regulated by the USDA for organic products. Products labeled as “100% organic” or “100% certified organic” must contain only organically produced ingredients. Products labeled “organic” must contain at least 95% organically produced ingredients.

Visit the National Organic Program or the Organic Trade Association for more information about organic products and labeling.
