Spring Living Room Makeover

April 14th, 2009 · 1 Comment · Art & Decor, Furniture

I am inspired by combining yellow and turquoise, like in this nursery and this kids room design. We recently began making over our living room. The before was so bad I am not even going to share a picture. We lacked proper furniture, space planning, and had horrible colors. To welcome spring we have brightened up the room with a new light gray wall color and a pop of color for the furniture.

As our 5th Anniversary wedding gift we bought the pair of yellow Anson chairs from the Room and Board Outlet. We love the retro styling and that they were made in Texas. To compliment the new chairs I designed some fabric using Spoonflower and turned it into a couple accent pillows using this envelope pillow tutorial. I am not 100% satisfied with the pillows. I want to reorder the fabric in a less-orange shade of yellow and make the print a little bit smaller.

Above the couch we did a little frame collage full of family photos. Every room needs a little life and the blooming Kalanchoe plant on the dining table helps carry the color through the space. It is potted in a biodegradable Eco Planter made from rice hulls. We already had the Network bookshelf made from bamboo that we use for toy storage in the corner.

Now all we need is the prefect rug and coffee table. For the coffee table we are considering the IMFORS from Ikea, because we want white and the price is right. For the rug we are eyeing the Strand Rug in Cement. I loved the Taksim Rug from West Elm, but it is no longer available.

So what do you think?

Looks fantastic! I think the turquoise-yellow combination feels so fresh, and I love the clean lines and brightness in your new living room. I too am dreaming of a freshening up of our home. It’s hard to believe how time flies, especially when I realize it was nearly 10 years ago I painted the living room boring beige! I’m inspired by your post. Got to get my ideas together!
