Handmade Halloween Costume – Cute Skunk

October 28th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Clothes

Everyone seems to be pushing for a green halloween and one of the leading recommendations is to make your own costumes. Earlier this month I told you I found the Tom Arma Baby Costume pattern and I intended to make my son a costume (with my mom’s help). Well Grandma to the rescue and in less than two days my son was transformed into a skunk! (picture after the jump)

As the story goes my son’s nickname is Pepé (the hispanic nickname for José) and whenever he has a stinky diaper we jokingly call him Pepé Le Pew. He even has a shirt with a picture of Pepé Le Pew that says Little Stinker. When I saw the skunk costume I knew instantly we had to make it for him.

My son might just be the only baby who likes wearing a bulky fur costume. He got to do a trial run at a birthday party this past weekend. He loves his costume probably in part due to all the attention he gets. He also chases our border collie around the house all day trying to pet her, so the instant we put the costume on he was so excited to pet the fur.

I have to credit my mom with most of the work. The costume involved a lot more hand-sewing than I imagined to get the patches just right and sometimes just because it was easier to sew by hand then use the machine. The most intricate part was the head which was mostly hand-sewn. Thanks mom!

You did a beautiful job, i’ve seen the storebought one, it looks the same. I was thinking of doing the lion for my little boy, and your photo has encouraged me! Thanks
