So long story short an awesome nursery rocker arrived at my doorstep on Monday and I am in love. Finally the curse has been lifted after 9 long months and I get to have a chair in the nursery. If you want to learn more about the dreaded nursery chair curse keep reading. If you are just curious about the $400 rocker that saved me and its great features, jump to the second to last paragraph.
The Nursery Chair Curse, as I call it, all began during the nesting phase of my pregnancy. Six weeks before my due date I was a nervous wreck realizing I had not ordered a chair for the nursery. In a panic we rushed over to our beloved Room&Board showroom to order a glider. Delivery of the chair was scheduled on my due date, so I prayed the baby would not come early.
Like usual the baby had other plans and showed up almost 2 weeks early. Around the same time Room&Board notified me my glider was delayed 2 weeks. Yikes, I was going to have to suffer 4 weeks without a rocker and so the curse began. Room&Board has awesome customer service and sent over a loaner glider for me to use, which arrived a week later.
I quickly realized the glider was not ergonomically going to work for me. The week before it arrived I had come accustomed to using a nursing pillow which was nearly impossible in the narrow seat of the rocker and the arms were to high. I returned the loaner and canceled my order. For the next 6 months my husband would retrieve the crying baby from his crib and bring him into our room where I would nurse him on our bed.
Finally I came across another chair I liked, a $900 Dutalier. I convinced myself after 6 long months I deserved a nice chair and since it looked like a club chair I would be able to use it in a family room in the future. We went to purchase the chair from Baby Grand in St Paul, but the only available sales person did not know how to order it. Ready to drop almost a grand on a chair I thought they should at least get me a cold glass of lemonade and rub my feet. After waiting 10-15 minutes for the first sales person to find help we opted to leave the store without ordering the rocker. Again, I thought to myself, “I am cursed to never have a chair in the nursery.”
Three more months passed with my husband fetching the baby and I found out about the Nurseryworks 50% off sale. With my husbands birthday on the horizon I thought I could get him the Storytime Rocker he has always admired, but not wanted to pay $800 for. They had a suitable color on sale so I order it. The 1-2 week time frame for delivery came and went along with my husbands birthday and Father’s Day. I regrettably e-mailed Pacifier to cancel the order, when the same day Wing from Pacifier got me the tracking number from Nurseryworks and the chair was on its way.
The Storytime Rocker arrived on Monday in two boxes, one for the chair and one for the legs. It was so easy to put together and looks perfect in the nursery. At last we had a nursery chair and my husband came home from work that day to a wonderful surprise. He no longer has to get the baby at night and he now has a great perch for him to read stories to his son. The Storytime Rocker has an extra wide seat allowing enough room for an adult and a child. I vow never again to look for another nursery chair and thankfully Nurseryworks has made that vow easier for me to uphold. The Storytime Rocker is upholstered with a removable panel (see pic below) at the bottom attached with velcro. This will make the chair super easy to reupholster if I want to change the fabric color in the future.

So the moral of the story is good things come to those who wait or patience is a virtue. I think my husband would strongly disagree that I was patient throughout this process. But ultimately my persistence to find the perfect nursery chair at a reasonable price has paid off.
