Years ago I saw a home decorating show where they used liquid starch to apply fabric to the bottom half of a wall below the chair rail and I thought it was such a cool idea. The fabric can easily be removed and the wall cleaned. No need to mess with glue and wallpaper. Unfortunately I never jotted down the instructions on how to do it, but Ohdeedoh recently featured this great post on using liquid starch to make fabric wall appliques.
Making your own fabric appliques gives you complete creative control and is much less expensive than buying wall decals. This would also make a really great gift for an expectant mother. Cut out one large or several small shapes to coordinate with the nursery design. Roll them or fold them neatly and present them as a gift in a basket with a bottle of liquid starch and a sponge. It will make a great nesting project for the mom-to-be.
