I first wrote about Fuzzi Bunz vs. G Diaper when I ordered the G Diaper Starter Pack. It has been a few weeks now and I am back with an update.
Let’s start with the G Diaper. I still love the ‘little g’ pants, but I have not ordered any more inserts. They seem a little pricey (see more on cost comparison below). Instead we have been trying cloth inserts inside the ‘little g’ pants. We have been very impressed using our Fuzzi Bunz terry cloth inserts in the G Diaper.
Now for the Fuzzi Bunz, I am still in a love/hate relationship with them. I decided part of the nighttime leaking issue could be due to the fleece repelling. I stripped the diapers. It worked! They have improved a lot and the pee soaks through to the insert a lot more now. But we are still having leaks. Mostly at night when my son is in them for a little longer at a stretch. The leaks are consistently around the leg holes, but I cannot make the diapers any smaller and the smaller size diaper does not have a high enough rise.
We still use our Fuzzi Bunz most of the time, because we only have 2 ‘little g’ pants. I think at this point if I had not already invested so much in the Fuzzi Bunz, I would switch completely to the G Diapers and use them with cloth inserts. The elastic waist band with velcro and elastic leg holes on the G Diapers allows for a much more custom fit.
Speaking of investments, I wondered what is the cost difference in terms of initial investment vs. recurring cost for the Fuzzy Bunz and the G Diapers?
The following chart is based on 70 diaper changes per week for a year. Cost is for size medium or size 3 diapers purchased by the case. G Diapers recommends starting with 6 ‘little g’ pants at $16.99 each. Fuzzi Bunz recommends 24 to start (if you do not want to do a wash everyday) at $17.95 each.
Here is the break down:
| Diaper Type | Starting $ | Recurring $ | Total $/year |
| Fuzzi Bunz | $430.80 | None | $430.80 |
| G Diaper | $101.94 | ~$0.41/insert | $1580.69 |
| Huggies | None | ~$0.24/diaper | $884.47 |
One tip on the G Diapers, if you do not mind the vanilla and orange colors, order 3 starter packs for $26.99 each. You will end up with 6 ‘little g’ pants for $80.97 (save over $20) and what amounts to 30 free inserts!
Fuzzi Bunz wins as most economical. Disposables beat out G Diapers in terms of price, but G Diapers are more environmentally friendly hands down. As for me, I am going to stick with my combination of Fuzzi Bunz and using cloth inserts in the ‘little g’ pants.

Please be careful using the fuzzi bunz inserts in your G-Diapers. These inserts are made out of microfiber and the reason why they work so well is because they pull all the moisture into them. This means they will actually pull moisture from your baby’s skin and could dry the skin out. Fuzzi Bunz does sell fleece liners that can be placed on top of the inserts and as long as the entire insert is covered baby will be ok. But I would be careful doing this.
Two other great options are using a plain old cloth diaper prefold. The “infant size with green stitching” fit perfectly into the g-diapers. So do our med size hemp inserts.
Finally, you should not have to deal with leaks at night. Cloth diapers are a lot like disposable diapers when it comes to fit on every baby. Some baby’s can wear pampers while others can only wear huggies. I would love to suggest that maybe you try a different brand of cloth diaper to see if you have a different experience.

Thank you for your comment Linda. It is good to know that the microfiber inserts should not be used alone. We have also used hemp inserts in the G Diaper, which we really like because they are thinner than the cloth inserts. Is it safe to use the hemp inserts by themselves?
If the budget allowed I would love to try every cloth diaper available. I do think I could probably try one or two of another style. Thanks for the advice, we can use all we can get

I have found an awesome cover from the brand wonder wraps, they are supposed to work for babies 9 pounds to 35 pounds in just one cover and use cloth prefold inserts. Here’s the website,

I am still trying to get some omoney to try them out, but I am excited because I have 2 in cloth diapers and this will save money because I won’t have to buy more covers when they get bigger.
Thanks for your cute blog!
YEAH CLOTH!!
